Rivers, Lakes, & Forests

Screen Shot 2015-01-25 at 12.38.31 PMby J. Maximilian

Rivers, Lakes and Forests by J Maximilian, is a sampling overview of his writings from five different categories; most themed to the book’s title. Minnesota’s wilderness areas and the Canadian ‘bush’ have led the author’s deep appreciation for life’s living. Selected writings from each category in Rivers, Lakes and Forests, include short stories, adventures, poems, and prayers. All are linked with Nature’s beauty and most with non-religious spirituality. Each writing is part of the author’s real life experiences; and indicative of Mr. Maximilian’s intuitive style of ‘Word-Painting’…imagery through words.

Authored by Alan Swope

Child of the Wilderness: The Trials

Life was hard for Jimmy Lee Shannon living in the mountains. He had run away from home when he was ten after being accused of stealing a gold medallion and lying to his parents. At first his life on the run consisted of eating raw meat and wild vegetables whenever he was able to find some or snare a rabbit and find a creek with clear running water. During the more than five years of living alone with his wolf (Bear) he had many fights with wild animals. He also learned to speak the language of the Lakota tribe, while doing so he all but forgot the English language.
During his fifteenth year two men, a professor of archaeology and his assistant entered Shannon’s valley and was confronted by Jimmy and his wolf, he motioned for them to leave. The two men went to the sheriff’s office and told Sheriff Eva Banks what had happened and showed her a video of the confrontation. In late September of that year three men entered the valley to pan for gold, a gun fight broke out which left one man dead and two wounded. Now the hunt was on, during the next two years there would be a lot of chaos of fights with wild animals, hospital stays, and finally the trial.

Willoughby – The Story of an Empire’s Greatest Shame

Screen Shot 2017-04-09 at 11.02.54 AMAuthored by A. E. Conners

This is a story of courage, love and tragedy. Never will you forget the fictitious town of Willoughby, the wonderful people who lived there… or a man called John Reynolds and the women who loved him.

In the trenches of France, during WW1, Australian soldier John Reynolds makes a suicidal attempt to save the life of British Army officer James Mannington.

Little did John Reynolds realize that his single act of courage would change the lives of so many and take him on a journey halfway around the world to find his son and expose England’s greatest shame.

Until as recently as the late 1960’s, approximately 150,000 British children were shipped to Australia, Canada and other parts of the British Colonies. The result provided homes for unwanted children, replenished those colonies with British citizens and provided a workforce… of children.
